Do's And Don'ts
Below you will find some simple rules to follow to help you manage and treat your acne:
Do's
Don'ts
- Do wash with detergent lotion or medicated soap; and do use proprietary acne lotions and drying creams.
- Don't wear your hair in a fringe. Hair falling on to your forehead or face can increase the number of spots. Wash your hair regularly and keep it reasonably short or tied back.
- Do sunbathe or use an ultraviolet lamp- taking due care.
- Don't use oily or greasy cosmetics to hide your spots. If you have to use cosmetics, choose non-greasy ones. Ask your chemists advice.
- Do keep to a balanced diet
- Don't squeeze or pick at acne spots. They will become larger and inflamed, making scarring more likely. Single, large, unsightly blackheads may be removed with a blackhead extractor after first washing the skin.
- Do consult your doctor
- Don't become impatient if the spots do not clear up immediately. Treatment may take weeks or months to work.
