What Is Acne?
Definition:a chronic disorder of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Acne is characterized by black heads, pimple outbreaks, cysts, infected abscesses, and (sometimes) scarring.
Definition:an inflammatory disease involving the sebaceous glands of the skin; characterized by papules or pustules or comedones.
Acne vulgaris is the most common form of acne but includes several types of pimples. An inflammatory skin disease, caused when follicles known as pores become blocked. Sebum (oil) which normally drains to the surface gets blocked and bacteria begins to grow. Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots or zits.
The condition is most common in puberty, especially among Western societies, this is most likely due to a higher genetic predisposition. It is considered an abnormal response to normal levels of the male hormone testosterone. Acne tends to decrease and will often disappear during ones early twenties. Unfortunately some individuals may continue to suffer from acne into their thirties and forties and there is no way to predict how long it will take for it to disappear completely.
